General & Preventative DentalTongue-Tie / Lip-Tie Procedure

What is a Frenectomy?

A Frenectomy is a procedure used to correct a condition in which the tongue and/or lip has restricted movement due to a frenulum (attachment) that is too tight. This restricted movement can cause problems in all ages. This condition is commonly called a Tongue-Tie when affecting the tongue and a Lip-Tie when affecting the lip.

What are the Benefits of Releasing a Tongue Tie or Lip Tie?

For Adults:
A tongue-tie can limit mobility of the tongue and create tension in the head and neck. This can make it more difficult to open the airway, speak, or simply enjoy an ice cream cone!

Symptoms may include:

  • Difficulty with speech
  • Snoring / Sleep apnea
  • Pain in the jaw
  • Neck tension
  • Migraines
  • Social complications such as eating out & kissing
  • Dental problems
  • Trouble keeping a denture in place

For Children:
Children with a tongue-tie can have troubles with mobility that can affect day to day life, but can also affect oral development.

Symptoms may include:

  • Inability to chew, gagging or choking on age appropriate foods
  • Difficulties cleaning teeth
  • Speech issues
  • Tooth crowding and/or high arch palate

For Infants:
An infant-tongue tie and/or lip-tie can impede the ability to successfully breast feed.
